about me

My name is Malou Warmerdam,
a 29 year old graphic designer from the Netherlands. My dad always said “Turning your hobby into your profession, is the best job in the world.“ I have been following up his advice for about 12 years now.

First I studied MBO4 Graphic Design, at Media College in Amsterdam. Followed by HBO (Bachelor) Graphic Design, at Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. During my studies I did three internships in the Netherlands and one semester in Vancouver (CA), at Emily Carr University. Directly after I graduated I started as a freelancer, but in May 2016 I got a graphic design job at Studio Piraat in The Hague.

About 1,5 years later, I decided it was time to see the world. I quit my job and went backpacking for one year through Southeast Asia. After an amazing year in Asia, I applied for the Working Holiday Visa in New Zealand. Here I've been working, traveling and doing some wwoof-ing (volunteering on organic farms). The experiences I had while traveling are absolutely priceless, but in the end I always come back to the thing I love doing the most: creating.

Ever since I was a child, I've been playing with colours, shapes, lines and compositions. These interests are still very visual in my work. I got a vivid imagination, with a big love for simplistic and vibrant designs. Clear communication is important to me, a design should be able to tell the story without words.
